ABOUT
The Nocturne for Orchestra Op.84 is an orchestrated version of Liebermann’s 6th Nocturne for piano solo. It was orchestrated especially for Grant Llewellyn and the BBC Orchestra and is dedicated to Llewellyn.
In its piano version, Nocturne No.6 was composed in 1998. It was commissioned by Richard Goula for pianist James Giles, and was dedicated to the memory of Lynn Hantel, a close friend of the commissioner, who died during the composition of the Nocturne. Giles premiered the work at Alice Tully Hall on November 15th, 1998. The 6th Nocturne is one of a series of twelve Nocturnes that have so far been composed.
