ABOUT
The Soliloquy Op.44 was commissioned by flautist Katherine Kemler and premiered by her. The work is in one movement of about five minutes duration. It is a fantasy-like piece containing no bar lines, and is meant to be played with a fair amount of rubato.
The work's material is generated form the opening motive consisting of a triad and raised fourth. It is developed in a way to show off the different registers and tone colors of the flute, contrasting slow, fast, and more fragmented music.
