ABOUT

Romie De Guise-Langlois, Dmitri Atapine, and Hyeyeon Park are three of my favorite instrumentalists, all of whom have premiered Sonatas that I wrote especially for them. So, when they asked me if I could arrange my Clarinet Trio Op.128 so that they could perform it with cello instead of viola, I was happy to oblige. The original version of the work was commissioned by the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, sponsored by Joyce and David Cornell and premiered in Tucson on March 18th, 2015. The new version (Op.128a) was premiered by the present musicians at Bezanson Recital Hall in Amherst, Massachusetts on May 24th, 2022. The Trio is in three movements, marked Movendo limpido (Moving clearly), Largo, and Allegro. As with most of my chamber music, there is no programmatic or extra-musical content: my compositional concerns lie with the development of musical materials and the abstract emotions that they evoke.
