New York Philharmonic Announces Liebermann Premiere   The New York Philharmonic has announced the premiere of a new Trumpet Concerto by Lowell Liebermann, scheduled for performance in the 1999-2000 season.   The Concerto is commissioned by the Estate of Helen Treutle in memory of Edward Treutle, who was for many years on the trumpet faculty of the Juilliard School of Music.   The Concerto will be performed by Treutle's former pupil, Philharmonic principal trumpet Philip Smith and conducted by Kurt Masur.

Liebermann Appointed Composer-In-Residence of Dallas Symphony: Millenium Symphony to premiere in February 2000  The Dallas Symphony announced at their Millenium press conference on January 19th at Meyerson Hall the appointment of Lowell Liebermann as Composer-in-Residence and Advisor on Contemporary Music Programming.  The three-year appointment begins immediately.  As part of the residency Liebermann will compose a major work each season.  Already announced is the premiere of Liebermann's Symphony No. 2, a large-scale work for orchestra with chorus, organ and auxilliary brass based on texts of Walt Whitman,  commissioned for the Millenium season and scheduled to premiere in February of 2000. Also planned as part of the residency are a contemporary chamber-music series and a wide range of educational outreach events.

Liebermann Commissioned by Ithica College  Ithica College has commissioned Lowell Liebermann to write a choral work for its Choral Composition Festival.  The work, a setting of three Elizabethan poems, will be premiered on November 13th, 1999 with the composer in attendance..

RCA releases Galway concerto CD   RCA Victor Red Seal has released James Galway's all-Liebermann CD, available in stores now (#09026-63235-2). The CD features Galway with harpist Hyun-Sun Na and the composer conducting the London Mozart Players. Included on the recording are Liebermann's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Concerto for Flute Harp and Orchestra, and Concerto for Piccolo and Orchestra. This will be the second release to feature Liebermann conducting his own music. The first, Hyperion CDA66966, included his two Piano Concertos and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition.

New recording of "Soliloquy" released  Katherine Kemler has re-recorded LIebermann's "Soliloquy" for solo flute for Centaur Records.  It has just been released on her album titled "Sky Loom" Centaur 2399.  Kemler commissioned "Soliloquy," and her first recording of it is available on Opus One records.

Liebermann appointed director of French music festival     Lowell Liebermann has been appointed music director of Le Rencontre Musicale d'Orbec, an annual music festival held in the town of Orbec, in Normandy, France. The first festival will take place during July 23rd-25th, 1999, and will focus on the music of Claude Debussy.
